Empowering Independence, One Recipe at a Time

Let's face it, cooking isn't easy—especially when executive functions like planning and time management feel like insurmountable hurdles. It's more than just a meal; it's about managing a symphony of skills that sometimes, we just don't have in tune.

At Life Skills Advocate, we stand by our name—by actively seeking ways to advocate for building essential life skills among the neurodivergent community.

And what's more essential than cooking?

We've heard your frustrations, felt the stress, and seen the cycle of anxiety and shame that comes with kitchen challenges. That ends now.

Introducing The Neurodivergent-Friendly Cookbook: not just a collection of recipes, but a revolutionary approach to making cooking accessible and enjoyable for everyone, particularly for the neurodivergent community.

Through deep conversations, client feedback, and my own lived neurodivergent nightmares experiences in the kitchen, we've crafted a cookbook that addresses all the pain points traditional cookbooks ignore.

This is our invitation to you: to explore a world where cooking doesn't have to be a chore or a challenge, but a chance to discover your culinary capabilities with less stress and more pride and independence.

We believe this cookbook isn't just a tool—it's a transformation. It's about saving money, reducing stress, and building a life skill that lasts.

It's about turning the kitchen from a place of anxiety to a space where you can truly thrive.

In solidarity with your kitchen journey,

CHAPTERS ORGANIZED BY

EF-DEMAND

While most cookbooks organize their chapters by cuisine, ours organizes by brain power. Running low on brain capacity? Try the "Three Ingredients or Less" chapter.

ALL INGREDIENTS ARE EASY TO FIND

No hunting down some super specific ingredient that you probably can't even tell the difference from the alternative anyway.

No to whatever this is

measurements are "split" from the beginning

You know how at the top of most cookbook recipes, they say something like "olive oil (split)" but don't tell you how much to split until you get way down to that step? That's annoying. Don't do that.

Highly recommended!

For anyone who has struggled to consume three nutritious meals a day due to executive functioning challenges, this cookbook is your guide. From meal planning to shopping list, this cookbook makes it easy. Particularly helpful is the list of recipes in the "I Just Need to Eat" section that have minimal ingredients and take minimal time (and brain power) to prepare. Speaking of brain power, I love the Brain Power Meter which indicates on each recipe how much executive functioning is required to prepare it. You can start easy and work your way up step-by-step to the most difficult, which require careful attention and the most skill and experience. Highly recommended!

Hi, I’m Chris and I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I moved to the Seattle area in September of 2008 and soon after, I met my awesome wife, Lisa!

I earned my special education teaching degree while working as paraeducator in the Kent School District. Overall, I have about 8 years of classroom experience and 20 years and counting of personal experience with ADHD and anxiety. I started Life Skills Advocate in 2019 because I wanted to create the type of support service I wish I had when I was a teenager struggling to find my path in life.

With everything I do, my mission is to uplift the neurodivergent community to embrace their strengths and self-advocate with confidence.

I consider The Neurodivergent-Friendly Cookbook to be a natural extension of this mission.
