We Prioritize Your Needs Through a Client-Centered & Relationship-Focused Approach

Did you know that the strength of the relationship between a coach and a client can significantly influence the success of the coaching process? In fact, relationship factors account for about 30% of what drives change, while specific techniques and modalities contribute to around 15% (1).

While we certainly value and utilize effective techniques, we believe that they are most beneficial when built upon a foundation of trust and understanding. Without a strong relationship, the effectiveness of these techniques can be significantly reduced.

That's why we place a high priority on getting to know you as an individual in a judgment-free environment. We want to understand your unique needs, goals, and what motivates you. Our coaches are committed to providing a safe space where you can feel comfortable and understood. This client-centered and relationship-focused approach is not only more humanistic, but it also allows us to tailor our coaching strategies to be most effective for you.

We Believe That Coaching Should Be Rooted in Your Everyday Life

Simply discussing strategies and plans often falls short of the mark. We believe that engaging in real-life activities, guided by our experienced coaches, is typically the most effective way to identify what's working, what needs adjustment, and what kind of support is necessary for success.

Take, for instance, managing your weekly schedule. We can assist you in crafting a robust schedule that accounts for all your responsibilities and interests. However, if the process becomes too daunting in practice - perhaps due to juggling multiple tasks, prioritizing, or dealing with unexpected changes - it can be challenging to identify the exact source of the stress and devise solutions. This is where giving up might seem like the easiest option.

But, when you navigate your weekly scheduling with a coach, they can offer guidance, helping you to slow down, identify the issues, and problem-solve. This enables you not only to manage your schedule effectively but also to reap the broader benefits of good time management, such as less reliance on last-minute adjustments, better control over your time, and increased independence.

This approach applies whether you're working with us in-person or virtually. We're committed to helping you navigate your real-life challenges, wherever you are.

We Focus On Enhancing Your Executive Functioning Skills

Executive functioning, encompassing skills such as time management, organization, and impulse control, is the cornerstone of our daily activities. When these skills falter, it can lead to struggles with motivation, self-confidence, and academic performance, often resulting in feelings of depression and anxiety. Our approach is to delve into the root causes of these struggles, enabling us to construct a framework that makes the learning and application of various life skills more achievable.

Consider the ripple effect that executive functioning has on our lives. A single disruption – a challenging homework assignment, a change at work, or car troubles – can cause a broader set of disruptions when we struggle with executive functioning skills. By enhancing your executive functioning skills, we aim to help you better manage these disruptions, leading to improved academic achievement, healthier relationships, increased confidence, and a greater sense of independence.

In essence, we're here to help you reverse the Executive Functioning Ripple Effect, turning it from a source of disruption into a force for positive change in your life.

We Take a “People Before Profits” Approach (i.e. We’re Not a Startup)

Starting with our founder (who's neurodivergent himself), at Life Skills Advocate, we understand the unique needs of the neurodivergent community and prioritize our clients' well-being above all else.

For example, things like session length are totally individualized and flexible, as they should be. Would daily 15-minute sessions work better for your brain? We can accommodate. We also offer flexible billing options that don't require you to commit to a subscription or package.

We're a small business that's grown into a larger one. Not a "startup". Unlike many startups, which often prioritize rapid growth and profit over the needs of their clients, we take a people before profits approach. Our coaching model is centered on the individual needs of our clients, and we work collaboratively with them to set and achieve their goals. Don't settle for a cookie-cutter coaching approach from a startup. Try Life Skills Advocate for a truly personalized and compassionate coaching experience.

We Empower You to Maintain Your Progress with a Customized Plan to Fade Coaching Support

Our mission is: Uplifting the neurodivergent community to embrace their strengths and self-advocate with confidence.

A crucial part of this journey is fostering self-reliance and confidence in our clients.

To achieve this, we work with you to develop a personalized plan to gradually reduce the intensity of coaching support. This isn't about pulling away, but rather about empowering you to apply the skills and strategies you've learned independently. As you grow more confident and capable in managing your executive functioning and life skills, the need for intensive coaching naturally diminishes.

This approach is a key component of our commitment to your long-term success. We celebrate each step you take towards greater independence, and we're here to provide support and guidance as you navigate this journey. Our ultimate goal is for you to feel confident and capable in managing your life skills and executive functioning, knowing that you have the tools and strategies to do so.

We Are an Inclusive and Welcoming Environment for LGBTQIA+ Clients

The queer and neurodiverse communities have been sharing space for many years. A 2020 study of 247 women with autism found that half of them reported identifying as not cisgender (2). In contrast the general US population reports only 0.6% of people identify as transgender. Those with ADHD could make up 67.5% of individuals with gender dysphoria according to the Psychiatry and Clinical Psychopharmacology journal (3).

Another study conducted by Sexual Medicine Reviews in 2016 found that “people who do not identify with the sex they were assigned at birth are 3 to 6 times more likely to be autistic than cisgender people" (4). This study also found that gender diverse people were more likely to report autistic traits and suspect that they have undiagnosed autism.

Armed with this knowledge, Life Skills Advocate is a queer-affirming service that integrates our client's identities and self-discovery into our practice.
